Since 1956, The Marine has been an integral part of the fabric of Ballybunion, proudly registered as a hotel with Failte Ireland. Over the decades, it has weathered the winds of change, its character ingrained in the very walls that embrace generations of stories.
Under the stewardship of various families, each leaving their unique imprint, one thing has remained constant—a deep-seated love for Ballybunion and a commitment to providing a place cherished by all who visit.
Our little haven sits majestically atop the famed Ballybunionbeach, offering unparalleled views and invigorating sea breezes that refresh the soul. For generations, hardworking individuals have poured their hearts into running The Marine, ensuring it remains a beloved destination. Passion is the secret ingredient that infuses every aspect of our establishment—a quality that cannot be bought but is felt in every moment spent here.
Today, The Marine is owned by business partners Derek Nagle, Elaine Bennett Murphy, and Anthony Bennett, each bringing diverse expertise to the table. Derek and Elaine oversee the day-to-day operations, infusing their passion for hospitality into every interaction.
Ballybunion, once a seasonal town, faced unprecedented challenges with the onset of the COVID outbreak. Despite setbacks, we persevered, supported by a community of believers who shared our vision. As the saying goes, “Resilience is all about being able to overcome the unexpected.” We adapted, we thrived, and we grew.
From our humble beginnings, we’ve expanded to include a bakery, café, and outdoor seating area—a gem nestled amidst Kerry’s breathtaking scenery. Our journey is one of constant evolution, fuelled by our enduring love for The Marine and the boundless possibilities it holds.
No longer confined by seasons, we welcome visitors year-round, embracing the warmth of our local community alongside summer guests. The dream of creating full-time employment and building a dedicated team has become a reality, for we know that we are nothing without our extraordinary staff.
